Affiliate Training

Thank you for becoming an affiliate!
now what?

Continuous Improvement is at the forefront of what we do.  As we become aware of areas to improve, we make adjustments.  According to the Federal Trade Commission (16 CFR Part 255), because we are advertising the Global Lean Summit on social media, we need to make sure we are compliant concerning the use of endorsements and testimonials in advertising.  As such, we are responsible for providing training to all of our Affiliates.  Thank you for reviewing these training guidelines.

Truth in advertising principles

WHY THIS TRAINING?
Objective:
To ensure all affiliates understand and comply with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines regarding endorsements and testimonials in advertising.  For a detailed guide, visit the FTC webpage:
https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-16/chapter-I/subchapter-B/part-255
Or for a 101 version for social media endorsements, check out this guide:

Be sure to watch the video on this page.

The main things to remember

  • Disclose when you have any financial, employment, personal, or family relationship with a brand.
  • It is your responsibility to disclose the brand relationship clearly and conspicuously on your post.  Don’t hide it in a #, but make it part of the post.
  • IF making a video, mention early on in terms like: “as an affiliate for the Global Lean Summit…” “as a Global Lean Summit ambassador…” “as a partner with the Global Lean Summit…” It wouldn’t hurt to include text in the video itself describing this relationship.
  • IF posting an image, it needs to be clear that this is an “Ad”, “Advertisement”, “Sponsored” etc. on the image.
  • When publishing your affiliate link, it is not enough to say “Affiliate Link” but make a clear declaration that this is “My Affiliate Link” so there is no question as to why you are providing the link.

Remember, as an influencer who is an affiliate, it is your responsibility to tell the truth and to not make claims you can’t back up, and to disclose that you are getting paid for anyone who signs up.  It is up to the audience with that knowledge to make an informed decision on how much weight to give your endorsements.

Thank you for your attention to helping us stay in compliance with FTC regulations.

Please reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for completing this training.
